Developed under the name “Gruppe B”, Helmuth Bott led the 959 project in an effort to convince Porsche Management the rear engine design of the 911 could remain, at a time when that was being questioned. Remarkably, that car which debuted nearly 30 years ago at the 1985 Frankfurt Motor Show, had both features and performance close to those of today’s 911. Porsche was so confident in the 959, they entered 2 in the 1986 Paris-Dakar Rally, with a 3rd to participate as a support vehicle. The 959s dominated with a 1-2 finish in arguably the world’s most punishing race, all within a year of the car’s debut. Even the support car took 6th! In honor of this year’s Dakar Rally which took Place in Peru, this blend features a hearty yet refined Peruvian sourced coffee.
